Continuing the discussion from [Searching of objects by different names](https://forum.telescopius.com/t/searching-of-objects-by-different-names/1070/5):

Hi Sebastian,

I’m following up on our previous communication because it concerns the same issue. I enjoy photographing planetary nebulae, many of which are small objects. When I post the photos on Telescopius, I can’t find them when searching. This applies in particular to PNs where the size is listed as N/A. Though the planetary nebula in the image is larger than the 5% search limit, the missing size information causes it to be considered smaller and so it isn’t found when searching (e.g.:

Also, a number of objects are not listed in your database (for example ALV 1, which I photographed recently). I suggest a modification so that the system searches for additional objects that the author explicitly states are in the image. Regardless of their size. I can find some nebulae under the PK catalog, but not under PN G… If I also entered a different name for the object in the image, it’d be awesome if the program could find it by that name as well.

In conclusion, I’m grateful for the immense amount of work you have put into this program. I love to use it.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the follow up.

I’ve just identified the problem with this picture: the plate-solved diameter of the nebula is smaller than what we can see in the picture (the plate solution says the nebula is 4.52% the total FOV, just shy of 5%, but it seems it should be at least 5-6x that). Unfortunately, that diameter comes from the plate solving solution itself ([astrometry.net](http://astrometry.net)) and SIMBAD doesn’t have the size for the nebulosity.

I could override the nebula size, but I would need to fetch that info from somewhere else than SIMBAD because it doesn’t have that info. I’m always looking for ways to improve the database, so if you know a good source to fetch this for the entire database, I’m all ears.

Regarding the missing objects, I’ll see what I can do with user generated content. The targets database doesn’t grow automatically, I need to update it manually, so I would need to gather all user input periodically to update the database.

I usually focus on adding entire catalogs at once. PN Alv 1 seems to be a lone object, am I right? But the PN G catalog seems to contain more than 1000 objects. I might add that one soon.

If you come across other catalogs you’d like to see, just let me know. I’m all for adding more full catalogs. The only exceptions are catalogs like PGC which contain more than 1,000,000 galaxies, most of which are very small and not very interesting for most amateur astronomers.
