# Total Time above Horizon (target tool)

Fantastic product. Happy to be a subscriber. This would be in the Targets tool. Adding a sort by total time above horizon would be nice. I would use this feature to help me determine which target to image. More exposure time typically is more detail, right?
I’m guessing that is not difficult to compute. Delta time of rise time above user configured horizon and set time below user defined horizon. I’ll kick in $50 USD toward this feature.

Well, I don’t usually implement suggestions this fast, but I don’t know how I missed this one for so long.
I’ve just released version 250930.1400 in which I added the “Imaging Time” option for DSOs and Target lists. Bear in mind:
1. The total imaging time is not displayed with the search results (yet) even though they are sorted by that.
2. You’ll naturally get circumpolar objects first when sorting by imaging time, as they are above the horizon at all times. If you are getting a lot of unwanted results and want to get rid of them, you’ll have to filter them out using the DEC filter - for example, if you’re in the Northern hemisphere, at some times you might want to search for objects with DEC \> your latitude.
I mentioned “circumpolar objects” and “horizon” but this new option actually works with whatever minimum altitude you set in the search parameters.

Please check your Telescopius version is 250930 or above. You can see the version and an upgrade link at the far bottom right corner of every page. Let me know how it goes!

Got it. New version is now showing the imaging time. Donation made.
Of note, when I select a catalog such as Messier, or NGC, there does appear to be an error in the list. The total Imaging Time appears to not be taking into account the time bounds of astronomical night. See image:

I can confirm this bug. I have the fix almost finished, hopefully I’ll release it later today. If not, tomorrow.

@VLC_Rick This is fixed now and fully functional in version 251002.1441.
Since there might be a lot of targets staying up in the sky all night (the exact same number of seconds), I also added a secondary sort by popularity. I have plans to add a secondary sort feature so you can decide to sort by size, mag, etc., but I’m not quite there yet.

Great stuff!! BTW, I’m retired, and spent 20 years as a coder back in the day. I mess around with some python from time to time. Send me a PM if I can perhaps be of use to you. I’m not allowed to earn income with my Spanish visa, however, this could be fun projects for me.
