I often have trouble finding my objects in the sky (with my telescope). To make it easier I have a look at the simulator around the object and look for bright stars. This would be a lot easier if I could zoom out a bit.

You’re absolutely right! This is already on the roadmap 
As a workaround right now, you can turn off the Telescope Simulator using the rightmost button on the toolbar. You will be able to zoom in and out freely (without the simulated framing), and after you’ve identified the brightest stars you can turn it back on selecting astrophotography/eyepiece again.
