Planets for Telescope Simulation

Hi there,

why can’t I find any planet in the target search for telescope simulation ?

What am I doing wrong ?

I have already installed the extended database, no chance.

Thanks and best regards

Planets are not in the simulator yet, but they will be available later this year. Sorry for the confusion!

Good morning good sir!! I’m looking to see if there’s any update to this. Is there a more set deadline for this feature reveal? It’s something I’ve wanted for quite some time, and I literally was talking to my Astronomical Society friend about this yesterday. It’s such a blessing to see that you’re putting it out!! Thank you so much!

Good morning! Unfortunately, no ETA yet :frowning:

This is being pushed back more than I’d like, but I still need to finish some other stuff first before I can finish the Simulator rework I started, to avoid having duplicate work later.

Sorry for bumping this thread. Is there any recent update about this? I can’t wait for this feature

Yes! The new Planetarium has the planets  You need to enable the Solar System layer, I’ll probable enable them by default before making the Simulator change permanent.

For now, you have the planets position and size, and their phases. The phases shadow don’t have the right direction yet. And I’m planning to add the planet moons soon too.

Go ahead and try the new Planetarium in Planetarium

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks. @sebagr

Is there any way to set the pixel size for the framing? (or binning)

I want to test Draco’s FOV.

Thank you

Somehow the Draco’s pixel scale does not seems to be ok.

Native Pixel Size

1.197 µm

Pixel Size After Binning

2.394 µm (2×2 binning)

Am I do something wrong?

I understand DWARFLAB Draco Smart Telescope uses 2×2 pixel binning by default, which you can disable. Several smart telescopes behave like this.

The quick workaround for this is setting cropping to 2x in the Composition settings of your framing. It won’t fix the pixel size computation, but the FOV will be correct.

I hope this helps!
